The University of Kentucky, College of Nursing invites qualified candidates to apply for this Clinical Title Series (tenure-ineligible) Assistant Professor position. This position is a 12-month appointment with an anticipated Distribution of Effort of about 55-70% Teaching and Advising, 20-35% Administration, 5% Scholarly Activity, and 5% Service and professional development, which will be reviewed annually. We anticipate a start date of July 1, 2025, but no later than August 1, 2025. An earlier date is subject to negotiation.

This position, based in Lexington, KY, onsite, will serve as the Director of and faculty member in the Bachelor of Science Surgical First Assist program within the College of Nursing. This leadership position involves overseeing all aspects of the BSSFA program, including course design, administration, budget management, continuous evaluation, and planning for accreditation. Additionally, the successful candidate will play a critical role in the development of a new laboratory to enhance the program. A significant portion of the workload will focus on teaching, ensuring students receive high-quality education and practical clinical experiences.

As the Program Director, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of students preparing for a specialty in Surgical First Assist. In addition to providing instruction, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the program, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, maintaining strong relationships with accrediting bodies, and ensuring that all program activities align with the educational goals of the institution. Key responsibilities include: design, implement, and evaluate courses for the program ensuring curricular changes through contacts with professional accrediting bodies, advisory committees, and employer groups; provide instruction in program courses; plan, evaluate and oversee student clinical experiences; manage lab equipment, supplies and accreditation requirements; establish and maintain lab guidelines, policies, and procedures; oversee the student evaluation process, providing feedback and documentation; advise BSSFA students in the program and assist with their professional development; maintain professional certifications (KCSA, CSFA, CSA) and stay current in education and clinical competencies; marketing the program and provide access to students; attend faculty and course meetings, participates in shared governance in the college, and collaborates across colleges and the university to ensure student success; and oversee total program evaluation, ensuring continuous improvement and adherence to ARC/STSA and Commission on Accreditation of Allies Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and SACS accreditation standards.

The required education and experience include a minimum of an earned master’s degree from an accredited university with a preferred additional bachelor’s degree in a health-related field; certification in Surgical First Assistant role and is licensed, or eligible for licensure by the Kentucky Medical Board; and a minimum of three years’ experience as a program director in Surgical First Assistant with current experience in the operating room. Current experience spent as a practicing surgical first assistant should be within the last five years. The candidate should be proficient in instructional methods, curriculum design and have program planning experience. Demonstrated proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canvas, Blackboard, etc. is preferred.
