Health Science Honors Instructor

Compensation: $9,730 for instruction; $1,000 for course development
The Pre-College Program within University College at Tufts University is seeking a part-time instructor in the field of Biomedical Sciences to teach the following course in the Summer II 2024 session: CSS 0090 Health Science Honors. The Health Science Honors course, which has been offered to pre-college students for several years, gives students the rare opportunity to learn how doctors think about their patients' problems and make clinical decisions on their behalf. Also, students will gauge the success of their interventions through lectures, interactions with physicians and practitioners, and visits to area hospitals and medical laboratories.
This course will meet for 3.5 hour sessions, twice per week from July 2nd through August 9th. As a reference, the schedule for Summer 2023 was M, W; 1:30pm - 5:00pm. It is open to rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. It is recommended that students have completed at least one year of biology. It will be taught in person on Tufts’ Medford campus. The course has a target enrollment of 15-30.
Expectations:
- As Instructor your primary duty will be teaching and class preparation. The University does not consider any scholarly work you may undertake to be a criterion for your present employment, nor does it consider such activity a requirement for retention as a Summer Instructor.
- You are expected to hold classes at the times specified by your department.
- You are expected to be available at regular posted office hours to discuss with students their academic progress or the results of examinations.
- You may also wish to talk with students about other matters, but you will not have any formal advisees. Summer Instructors are not eligible for tenure nor will company time spent as a Summer Instructor contribute to any eventual tenure probationary period.
Qualifications
M.D from an accredited medical school, or current medical student with expected year of graduation 2024. Previous related teaching experience is required, preferably at the college level.
