Open-Rank Regular Title Series (tenure eligible) Faculty Position - Department of Health & Clinical Sciences
The Department of Health & Clinical Sciences (HCS), College of Health Sciences (CHS) at the University of Kentucky is currently accepting applications for a full-time 11-month appointment, tenure-eligible faculty member at a rank determined by qualifications in the Regular Title Series, with a preferred start date of July or August 1, 2025. The successful applicant will contribute to the Department’s growing research capacity focused on health sciences, community-engaged research, and population health research with opportunities to pursue collaborations within and outside the Department and College. Research productivity in the College is nationally ranked by NIH in the top 20 of allied health colleges. Many opportunities for collaboration exist within the college, such as the Sports Medicine Research Institute and Center for Telehealth Education, Research, and Outreach, as well as centers and colleges across campus such as the College of Public Health, the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences, the Center for Health Equity Transformation, UK Center for Excellence in Rural Health, and UK HealthCare NCI-Designated Markey Cancer Center.
Primary duties of this position include advancing a personal research agenda that enhances the Department and College, teaching in the content areas related to their expertise, building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external constituents, and mentoring students in the Clinical Leadership and Management (CLM), Human Health Sciences (HHS), and Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) programs. The distribution of effort for this position is negotiable, but is anticipated to be approximately 30-50% instruction, 30-60% scholarship/research, and 10% service. Faculty may also assume an active role in the CHS Rehabilitation and Health Sciences PhD Program, a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional PhD program with faculty and students from disciplines such as Athletic Training & Clinical Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, and Speech-Language Pathology.
Required Qualifications:
- Academic doctoral degree in a health sciences related field with relevant experience; ABD considered. Related fields include, but are not limited to, public health, rehabilitation sciences, nursing, nutritional sciences, health psychology, health communication, health education, health administration, health policy, health systems engineering, health information management, clinical social work, medical sociology, or medical anthropology.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Record of scholarly work including original research with the strong potential for extramural
funding
- Undergraduate teaching experience with the potential for course management and design
Department of Health & Clinical Sciences
The Department consists of three undergraduate degree programs: Clinical Leadership and Management, Human Health Sciences, and Medical Laboratory Sciences.
The Clinical Leadership and Management (CLM), degree is designed to prepare healthcare leaders and administrators to lead as communicators, thinkers & problem solvers, inquirers, and collaborators. The program teaches applied skills in courses ranging from leadership to finance to human resources, and culminates with a two-course practicum sequence where classroom skills are put into action. CLM graduates are prepared for careers in hospital/clinic operations, long-term care, patient experience, health nonprofits, and healthcare policy, as well as graduate study. The Human Health Sciences (HHS) degree is a pre-professional program for students interested in healthcare careers. The HHS degree offers a liberal arts foundation designed to provide students with a comprehensive look at health care practices to complement a solid foundation in basic science. HHS graduates are prepared to pursue advanced professional degrees in healthcare, such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physician assistant studies, physical therapy, occupational therapy, optometry, athletic training, medical research, and more. Students are also being prepared for careers in patient navigation, leadership, and other graduate studies. The Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) degree students to provide essential clinical information to health care providers and ensure reliable results that contribute to the prevention, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of physiological and pathological conditions. Graduates of our MLS programs often go on to pursue advanced degrees in medicine, physician assistant studies, pharmacy, and dentistry. Many may also specialize in areas like hematology, clinical chemistry, toxicology, virology, microbiology, immunohematology (blood banking) or molecular biology.
