Understanding molecular mechanisms controlling cellular, tissue and organism responses to environmental contaminants (through water and air exposures) including nanomaterials, fibers (asbestos) and particulates and endocrine disrupting compounds. My laboratory uses both aquatic models (fish) in assessing water exposures and rodent models that focus on pulmonary injury. A more recent focus of my research program investigates how exposure to contaminants increases susceptibility to pathogenic infections (e.g. influenza H1N1).
