My professional nursing background is an accumulation of many years of diverse experience and knowledge while growing, living and working in Canada, Middle East, Southeast Asia and India. Earlier career progression consisted of being a nurse clinician in secondary and tertiary hospital-based positions in a variety of acute care areas, while in recent years I have focused on being a nurse educator and researcher in primary care. Building on my doctoral and postdoctoral work, my program of research focuses on breast cancer, patient oriented outcomes and mixed research methods; immigrant people who experience structural vulnerabilities due to their gender, ethnicity, culture, race, social status, living environments, social supports and access to healthcare. My program of research scholarship addresses public policy and health promotion and quality of life in cancer care. My research and community of practice focus on health promotion and wellbeing of immigrant people and rural communities. In my postdoctoral work, I have conducted mixed research methods and applied intersectionality lens in knowledge sharing from the women’s perspective and their experiences. My program of research comprises of health promotion and quality of life of ethnocultural groups with a particular focus working with immigrant people for developing culturally appropriate safe care. My areas of research interest include breast cancer, immigrant people and patient oriented outcomes. My research is situated within critical intersectionality and mixed research methodologies. I am focused on applying meaningful experiences and supportive care in nurturing, caring and healing using intersectionality lens of social, gender, race and culture in cancer survivors with immigrant health and living in rural communities.
