POSITION: The Auburn University Physical Therapy (AUPT) Program in the School of Kinesiology seeks to hire one founding tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank with expertise in Physical Therapy to begin in Summer 2024. This position is part of a cluster of faculty who will be hired at Auburn University over the next twelve to eighteen months and will be the core faculty for the brand-new Physical Therapy Program. The program’s mission is to educate and train diverse physical therapists emphasizing service among rural and underserved areas in Alabama and beyond.

We are looking for a highly collaborative faculty member to join us for a full-time, 12-month, position at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank in a developing DPT program as we work to establish an accredited program and set a gold standard in the advancement of physical therapy and promoting the health of all members of our community. The responsibilities will include participating in ongoing curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation; teaching assigned courses; active involvement in the faculty clinic; advising and mentoring students; establishing and maintaining a record of research and scholarly productivity; providing community service; and participation in program and university committees as appropriate.

Housed in the school, the developing PT program seeks contributions from those of diverse backgrounds who represent and advocate for our communities we serve. Auburn University is a land-grant university and houses nursing, pharmacy, speech-language pathology and veterinary medicine. The Edward Via College of Medicine also resides on the Auburn Campus and actively partners with colleges across the university. Interprofessional education is a strong foundation at AUPT with faculty and students training together as an interprofessional team across the curriculum. In addition, AUPT will host a faculty practice clinic for students and faculty to practice and treat many of our communities’ most underserved and vulnerable populations. The PT program will be home to a high-tech anatomy simulation lab, two state-of-the-art clinical classrooms, and a dedicated active learning studio/classroom. Our curriculum is grounded in our mission and designed to produce competent and compassionate clinical physical therapists who are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of all individuals, particularly those in underserved communities, through evidence-based practice, innovation, and advocacy.

The DPT program recently received Program with full-time Director status by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). On our current timeline we will matriculate our charter cohort of 38 students in Summer of 2025.
