The School of Public Health and Information Sciences (SPHIS) at the University of Louisville is seeking a dynamic public health scientist to serve as department chair in the Department of Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences (HPBS). HPBS is a diverse faculty of scholars and students focused on improving public health through the advancement health equity and social justice, interdisciplinary collaboration, community-engaged research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to create and implement policies and procedures that optimize departmental function, a justice-oriented leadership praxis, a robust extramural funding and publication record, high teaching aptitude, and an ability to effectively mentor faculty and students. The chair will be responsible for fostering and maintaining a culture of cohesion, inclusion, collaboration, and engagement among faculty, staff, and students. 

Qualifications: Candidates should have at least 5 years of leadership experience in the academy, but experience as a chair is not required; proof of relevant research, health promotion program implementation, and service including but not limited to: policy engagement and advocacy; evidence of change in community; community-engaged research; engagement in community organization boards; success and retention of faculty and students from marginalized backgrounds; teaching courses through a health equity and social justice lens; and application of social justice frameworks in work. Candidate should also have a sustained and robust funding portfolio; strong record of publications in peer-reviewed outlets; publishing with community members; communicating research findings to audiences beyond the academy; experience in intraorganizational policy development; curriculum development; identifying and implementing efficiencies in organizational programming and practice; and promotion of degree programs.

Candidates should have outstanding leadership demonstrated by: commitment to student success and attention to student needs; grants and publications with students and junior faculty; mentoring faculty to promotion, external funding, and publications; transparency; democratic leadership style; and evidence or potential for departmental growth.
