Job Description

As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University is seeking an Open Rank Professor of Exercise and Sports Science to promote our Catholic Franciscan Mission and Identity by teaching and directing research projects being conducted by our students. The candidate should have a strong interest in teaching, advising, and mentoring our students.
 
The candidate should be comfortable teaching a broad range of topics within the overall field of Exercise and Sports Science. Within that field, it is expected that the candidate will have a center of expertise in one or more of the following three areas: (1) strength and conditioning, (2) physiology of exercise and/or (3) clinical exercise physiology.
We invite applications for a full-time faculty appointment in Exercise and Sports Science to start no later than August 2024.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
  • Have the expertise and academic background to be able to teach undergraduate and graduate students in a wide range of exercise science courses.
  • Advise students on their academic progress and their intended career path and actively participate in student retention and new student recruitment.
  • Remain current in areas related to academic and intellectual areas of excellence.
  • Mentor both graduate and undergraduate students in research projects.
  • Participate on departmental and university-wide committees.
  • Actively collaborate on course-level and curricular revisions and development.
The ideal candidate will also:
  • Ideally, the faculty member will have the potential to conduct research program, using department laboratory and university-wide resources, suitable for a tenure-track faculty position.
  • Establish a research program suitable for participation by our students pursuing a BS and MS degrees in all aspects of the Exercise and Sport Studies department
  • Establish academic and research collaborations with faculty members in the department and across campus.
  • Be an active member of the profession with membership in a professional organization such as the ACSMNSCA, or other similar organization.
  • Create productive research collaborations to include undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty members within and outside ESS department.

 

Required Qualifications:
  • Possess a Ph.D. or similar degree in Exercise Science/Physiology or a closely related discipline. ABD candidates will be considered.
  • Experience teaching relevant curricula within Exercise Science/Physiology.
  • Serve as a mentor to undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Be able to use laboratory instrumentation relevant to Exercise Science in teaching and in research
