Department Summary
The College of Health and Public Service (HPS) at the University of North Texas, distinguished as one of the few Tier One research universities designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), prepares graduates to address diverse and complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities, and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public health, and urban design. We have seven academic departments with undergraduate and graduate programs, the Center for Public Management, the UNT Speech and Hearing Center, the UNT Work Inclusion and Supported Employment (UNTWISE) program, and a number of professional development and clinical training programs to facilitate careers to address a global society.

HPS students are trained to lead nonprofits, become educators, researchers and professionals who strengthen the diverse communities we serve, with thoughtful, inclusive, and equitable practices as audiologists, behavior analysts, city managers, emergency managers, health care administrators, public safety administrators, public health specialists, rehabilitation counselors, speech language pathologists, social workers, urban planners, and more.

The Department of Rehabilitation and Health Services is an interdisciplinary department which houses a Ph.D. in Health Services Research, two Masters’ degrees (Health Services Administration and Rehabilitation Counseling), two Bachelors’ degrees (Public Health and Rehabilitation Studies, and several minors and certificates. We focus on preparing interdisciplinary professionals and leaders who will advance equity and optimize quality-of-life- outcomes in diverse communities worldwide. In addition to being an innovative, student-centered instructor, the ideal candidate will be invested in supporting and mentoring diverse undergraduate and graduate students.

Position Summary
The Department of Rehabilitation and Health Services in the College of Health and Public Service seeks an outstanding and energetic full-time Assistant Professor with expertise in the field of health management for a nine-month tenure track position beginning August 2021. Teaching responsibilities include both undergraduate and graduate level courses in healthcare management and related health disciplines, such as public health. The candidate selected for this position will be expected to maintain continued scholarship and pursue funded research activity; engage in high-quality and innovative instruction in both traditional and non-traditional formats; serve as appropriate on department, college, and university committees as well as participate in professional organizations; and demonstrate a commitment to working in an inclusive environment with students from diverse backgrounds.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Health Management, or a closely related health field. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but the position requires completion of all doctoral requirements by July 1, 2020;
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and/or service that supports equity and inclusion for all in the academic community;
  • Evidence of scholarship, such as peer-reviewed publications, with a demonstrated potential for making a significant impact on the field;
  • Evidence of potential to secure grants from federal, state, or foundation funding sources;
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and teaching students in health-related programs;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty across disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching courses in health policy, health economics, health management, health informatics, statistics, or related courses;
  • Experience with instructional technology (instructional software, learning management systems such as Canvas) and ability to teach in traditional and non-traditional formats and settings (on-campus, off-campus, evenings, online);
