The School of Public Health of the Université de Montréal (ESPUM) is the only French-speaking school in the world and the only one in Canada to be honoured by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). Each year, the ESPUM attracts around 1,500 students engaged in improving population health through the training, creation and application of knowledge in all areas of public health. Our professors are active in research and knowledge transfer, and participate in training programs for researchers, practitioners and professionals.

The teaching and research activities of the Department of Environmental Health and Occupational Health cover a wide spectrum, including risk analysis, toxicology, environmental epidemiology, global environmental health, occupational hygiene, and occupational safety. We are seeking two professors for their expertise in environmental health to complete our professorial staff.

 

Your day-to-day responsibilities

Through your teaching and your research activities, you will play a pivotal role in fostering excellence within your faculty. Furthermore, you will enhance the prominence of your area of expertise and actively participate in the daily activities of our renowned university. In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop a competitive research program in environmental health, which will contribute to the Department’s influence in the scientific community. Your research area will be related to the impact of environmental degradation on the health of human populations with a priority on climate change, the application of artificial intelligence*, vulnerable populations, or environmental epidemiology;
  • Supervise students at all levels (Bachelor’s degree in environmental public health and occupational safety, Master’s degree in environmental and occupational health, Doctorate in public health);
  • Participate in the teaching of environmental health at all levels;
  • Contribute to the activities of the institution (e.g., take charge of a program or a program option, serving on departmental, faculty or university committees) 

* If a successful candidate is involved in Artificial Intelligence (AI) research, he/she could be considered for an IVADO position with improved start-up conditions. Applicants are invited to participate in one of the groups of the Apogée grant for robust, reasoned and responsible AI (IAR3).

The successful candidate's professional profile encompasses the following

  • Have completed a PhD in the field of environmental health or a related field;
  • Have completed a two-year postdoctoral internship or have at least two years of professional experience or the equivalent in the field of environmental health;
  • Have research experience in the targeted field;
  • Have a good understanding of the place of environmental health in public health and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary manner;
  • Adequate proficiency in the French language or a strong commitment to mastering the proficiency level required upon assuming the position in accordance to Université de Montréal’s Language Policy. A French language learning assistance program is offered to all professors who wish to acquire French language skills or enhance their communication abilities.
