Postdoctoral Position – Cell Biology, Physiology, Metabolism

A postdoctoral position is available in metabolism research at the University of California Davis School of Medicine. Research in our lab encompasses adipocyte biology, obesity and energy balance, and diabetes.

Current projects focus on newly identified genes that control systemic energy expenditure in animals. We utilize genetic mouse models and cell culture models extensively to probe how these genes work and how they affect key metabolic parameters such as body weight, glucose homeostasis, and temperature regulation. Their functions in fat tissue are studied using conditional knockout mice. Energy-burning fat cells are important because clinical studies in humans have shown that they confer multiple health benefits, including a lower risk of diabetes and heart disease. Activating these cells holds much promise in combating obesity and diabetes.

Recent postdoctoral scholars in our lab have been very productive with multiple authorships on high impact manuscripts. We are looking for highly motivated recent Ph.D. graduates who are excited by science. A strong practical knowledge of cell and molecular biology is important and some experience working with mice can be helpful.

The laboratory is at the main university campus in Davis, California. The city of Davis is a pleasant college town noted for high quality of life and sunny weather. It is about 20 minutes from Sacramento, 1 hour from Napa Valley, and an hour and half from San Francisco.
