THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a senior physician educator for the role of Faculty Development Director within the College of Health Sciences (CHS). The Director of Faculty Development is responsible for collaborating with leaders and faculty in all the VinUni CHS training programs and affiliated teaching sites to create a strategic vision for faculty development and for the design and implementation of faculty development programs that promote the success of all training programs.

The incumbent should have extensive experience in health professions education, preferably with leadership roles overseeing faculty development. This role will report directly to the Dean of CHS and will be 1.0 FTE.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assess needs, define priorities, and provide strategic vision and leadership for new and ongoing faculty development initiatives, particularly as related to the teaching, mentoring, and assessment skills of the VinUni CHS full-time and affiliated/adjunct faculty.
  • Build on the existing faculty development courses to develop a series of additional faculty development workshops for faculty at BN/UME/GME levels with emphases on the following skills: mentoring, clinical teaching, completing evaluations, research, leadership, feedback, classroom management, and professionalism.
  • Implement a faculty evaluation and feedback program (e.g. CFAP), including directly observed feedback.
  • Be a core member of the Medical Education Unit within CHS, which is responsible for producing health professions education research and dissemination.
  • Develop a Faculty Mentoring Program to foster career progression of VinUni CHS and affiliated faculty.
  • Oversee a process to collect, capture and report accurate faculty evaluation data.
  • Develop and continuously refine strategy for enhancing faculty engagement at VinUni CHS especially adjunct and affiliated faculty.
  • Work collaboratively with departments, centers, and committees within the medical school to integrate faculty development initiatives across the institution.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in all faculty development activities, ensuring that programs are accessible and beneficial to a diverse faculty body.
  • Encourage and support faculty scholarship in medical education and faculty development. Lead and contribute to research projects on effective faculty development practices.
  • Serve as a key advisor to CHS senior leadership on issues related to faculty development.
  • Develop an analytic plan that enables rigorous evaluation of the impact of these initiatives, with measurable outcomes.
  • Identify and mentor junior medical education leaders who can take over faculty development roles/duties within 1 to 3 years.

COMPENSATION

The salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Requires an MD or PhD degree, advanced training in the discipline for which you are applying, and at least 5 years of experience in health professions education, either as teaching faculty or in a health professions education leadership role.
  • Evidence of outstanding teaching skills for students at various levels of training.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with experience prioritizing work in a fast-paced environment with multiple and conflicting interests.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills. Have the ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, understands and follows policies and procedures, and accommodates change. Proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively on a team.
  • The position requires good judgment, rigorous attention to detail and the ability to handle sensitive/confidential information with discretion.
  • Extensive experience developing health professions education curriculum.
  • Evidence of strong mentorship/coaching skills for junior faculty.

 

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY

English is the language of teaching and communication at VinUniversity. For this role, the candidate needs to have an excellent written and verbal communication skill in English.

 

LIVING AND WORKING IN HANOI, VIETNAM

  • Work permit: VinUniversity will assist in and provide advice for obtaining the necessary paperwork needed for employment in Vietnam (visa, work permit, insurance, etc.). However, it is your responsibility to ensure that you can satisfy all the paper requirements in a timely manner.
